While Texas will have Arch Manning for its meeting with Vanderbilt<\/a>, the Longhorns will play Saturday\u2019s game without a key piece of their defense.<\/p>\n

Defensive back Michael Taaffe was officially ruled out for Texas-Vanderbilt on Saturday morning. Taaffe was the only player listed on Texas\u2019 availability report<\/a> ahead of kickoff.<\/p>\n

Taaffe returned to practice<\/a> this week after a brief absence. He underwent surgery on his thumb<\/a> after Texas\u2019 win over Kentucky on Oct. 18.<\/a> The defensive standout didn\u2019t play in Texas\u2019 victory over Mississippi State last week.<\/p>\n

Steve Sarkisian hasn\u2019t provided an exact timeline for Taaffe\u2019s possible return.<\/p>\n

Before his injury, Taaffe had posted 51 total tackles, 28 solo tackles and one interception.<\/p>\n
