Kendall County just bought 321 acres along the Guadalupe River<\/a> in early May, and officials say the future park could eventually become a tubing and kayaking destination comparable to New Braunfels and San Marcos.<\/p>\n

Andra M. Wisian, Kendall County Commissioner for Precinct 2, shared news of the purchase by posting a county-wide memo on her Facebook page, noting that the final cost for the new park totaled $11.4 million \u2014 $150,000 more than the $11.25 million price tag officials reported in December 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The larger price includes 11 more acres than the original 310 acres the county was originally set to purchase.<\/p>\n

located along State Highway 474, eight miles from Boerne, sits along a three-quarters of a mile stretch of the riverbank and plays a key role in the county’s long-term vision for local parkland, preservation efforts and river access.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The river through this area of the park will become the country’s first\u00a0“blue trail”, a designated waterway route with managed public access points for recreational, non-motorised watercraft like canoes, tube floats and kayaks.<\/p>\n

When complete, tubers and public recreational users could potentially float from a future access point at the\u00a0Guadalupe River Ranch to Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area<\/a>, which contains 1,700 feet of Guadalupe River frontage and is also owned by the county.<\/p>\n

The parkland was purchased with conservation bond funds approved by voters in 2022. The Proposition A bond is intended to bring more open space, conservation, recreation, wildlife habitat and water-quality protection efforts to the county.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Though the park’s purchase has now been finalized, there is no public timeline on when it will open.<\/p>\n
