But this summer comes with some changes. City officials say all public pools will remain open, though hours will be cut by approximately 25 percent as part of an early conservation push amid ongoing drought conditions.<\/p>\n
Assistant City Manager Michael Dice says the goal is to strike a balance between saving water and maintaining community access.<\/p>\n
The numbers behind the city’s water concerns are significant. Dice says pools and splash pads together use roughly 300 gallons of water per day individually, and combined can consume close to 1.8 million gallons over the 71 to 73-day summer season.<\/p>\n
To help offset that usage, the city is rolling out several conservation measures across its aquatic facilities. Pool covers will be introduced to help retain moisture and limit water loss, particularly during peak heat hours. Splash pads, meanwhile, will shift to a three-day-per-week schedule, operating only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays \u2014 a move aimed at cutting down on constant water flow and evaporation.<\/p>\n
