The blockbuster Western Conference Finals continues to deliver as the San Antonio Spurs have forced a Game 7 against the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. It has been a fun series to watch for basketball fans, and it is exciting to see, as both teams seem hell-bent on proving each other wrong.

Heading into the series, the Thunder were the favorites, especially since they are the defending champs. However, the Spurs have continued to prove the doubters wrong. Before the season started, no one expected them to be title contenders, but it seems they are in a good position to do so now.

Stephon Castle gets candid about his belief in his team being better than the Thunder

Before the season started, the Thunder were unanimous best team in the league. They were the defending champions with a young core that was hungry to turn the team into a dynasty. That has been the truth for the most part, as they have been dominant.

However, the Spurs have turned that narrative on its head because it seems Victor Wembanyama and his team are well ahead of schedule. They are an even younger team than the Thunder, but they are matching them blow for blow in the Western Conference Finals.

As one of the star players of the Spurs, second-year guard Stephon Castle has been quite vocal throughout the series. He has said that the referees are not giving enough leeway to the Spurs that the Thunder are being given, and now, he has said that the Spurs are the better team.

“As a group, I think we all want this. It’s right there in front of us. We feel collectively that we’re better than this team. We didn’t want to let our fans down on our home court either, so coming out here with a chance of going back to OKC and play Game 7, that was enough motivation,” Castle said to the NBA on NBC crew after the huge Game 6 win.

Those are some bold statements to make, especially for such a young team like the Spurs. However, the Spurs have backed up a lot of their talk with their success this season. Their season might end on Saturday, but it seems the Spurs will always have the confidence in them against any opponent.
