EL PASO, Texas (KFOX 14, CBS 4) — The biggest night of boxing El Paso has ever seen is less than 48 hours away. Sun City native Stephanie Han will headline a stacked MVPW-03 card at the El Paso County Coliseum on Saturday night.

Han will look to defend her WBA Lightweight world title in a rematch against former boxing and UFC champion Holly Holm on a card that includes four world championship fights.

On Thursday, the fighters were introduced at the Coliseum during the press conference.

Every time Han answered a question, the hometown crowd erupted in cheers. Han defeated Holm by unanimous decision after a doctor’s stoppage back in January. Now with the rematch fast approaching, the undefeated champion is more confident than ever with the hometown crowd behind her.

“Yes I do have an advantage because my people are here,” Han said to an echo of cheers. “I’m so glad that El Paso has embraced me as their champion. My coworkers, my family, my friends will all be there; so obviously I want to win because they will be there. I can’t not lose.”

Holm is among the most decorated female combat athletes ever, but on Saturday Albuquerque native is in enemy territory. After suffering the loss to Han a couple months back, Holm has been working to fix her mistakes and is more determined than ever to have her arm raised Saturday.

“There are definitely things to fix and polish up,” she said. “There are things that I worked in my last camp that I did not perform in the fight. This camp I have put them into my sparring. I feel that I have been more dialed in and I am ready to go.”

In the double main event seven-weight division champion Amanda Serrano will look to tie the all-time female career knockout tally against Cheyenne Hanson. This fight, just like Han vs Holm, will feature three minute rounds, as it is in men’s boxing. Serrano emphasized the importance of this to keep pushing the women’s sport forward.

“We needed change,” Serrano said. “A lot of women want to fight three minute rounds. We want that time to showcase our skills and get those knockouts. You see it with the men. Why can’t we do it? We train just as hard.”

Also on the main card, unified middleweight champion Desley Robinson will take on Mary Spencer. Lourdes Juarez and Yokasta Valle will kick off the main card, fighting for the WBC Jr. Flyweight title.

[12
138,140,139
post-313814","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-el-paso","tag-el-paso","tag-el-paso-headlines","tag-el-paso-news
["GET
