FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. \u2013 The UTA Track and Field team concluded its 2026 outdoor season Friday evening at John McDonnell Field, competing in the NCAA West First Round hosted by Arkansas.

\nFreshman Lucas Cano<\/a> competed in the men’s discus, recording a throw of 48.79 meters.
\n\u00a0
\nFreshman Abisayo Gbakinro<\/a> represented the Mavericks in the men’s triple jump, posting a mark of 15.02 meters to place 36th overall.
\n\u00a0
\nTHOUGHTS FROM COACH
\n“Solid first round for us. Everyone competed.” said Coach Sauerhage. “The foundation is in place for us to continue to be a top-level mid-major program. We look forward to the UAC [United Athletic Conference] and the new challenges it will bring with competition from the likes of Central Arkansas and Eastern Kentucky. We really enjoyed this year and look forward to the future.”
