Summer is here, but parts of Texas will struggle to see the sun on Monday, June 1. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that some areas could see storms this week.<\/p>\n
Forecasters say a storm system is moving into the northern Oklahoma Panhandle this afternoon. The Northern Texas Panhandle \u2013\u2013 including Stratford, Perryton and Canadian \u2013\u2013 faces a Level 1 risk of severe weather.<\/p>\n
Ping-pong-sized hail, 65 mph wind gusts and a tornado are the primary hazards, according to the\u00a0NWS<\/a>. Meteorologists say these hazards are most likely between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., when there’s also a 20% chance of showers, per the agency’s seven-day forecast<\/a> for Amarillo. Folks may also notice frequent lightning during this period.\u00a0<\/p>\n Despite the wet weather pattern, above-normal temperatures are expected across the region. Palo Duro Canyon is expected to see highs of 101 to 103 degrees.<\/p>\n “Thankfully, they will not be record-breaking as the record highs for June 1 are 8 to 10 degrees warmer than what is forecast,” the agency said<\/a>.<\/p>\n Looking ahead, there’s potential for flooding on Tuesday, June 2, and Wednesday, June 3, when rain chances are highest.\u00a0<\/p>\n Further north, residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex will also see gray clouds. The agency<\/a> says there’s a 20 to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. and continuing through 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.<\/p>\n The weather radar shows the system first affecting cities along and east of the I-35 corridor, including Canton and Palestine. By Wednesday, rain chances shift to the area along and west of the I-35 corridor, near Waco, Graham, and Cisco.<\/p>\n Forecasters say some of these storms could be severe, with gusty winds, small hail and frequent lightning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
