The city is working to investigate what led up to the drowning. <\/p>\n<p>MCKINNEY, Texas \u2014 A child drowned Saturday at the Apex Centre in McKinney, city officials confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The Apex Centre is an aquatics and fitness facility operated by the city of McKinney that includes indoor and outdoor pools. A notice posted on the city&#8217;s website said the indoor leisure pool at the facility was closed Sunday, May 31.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This past weekend, our community experienced a profound tragedy,&#8221; a city spokesperson said in an emailed statement. &#8220;We are devastated by the loss of life of a child at the Apex Centre water park on Saturday, May 30.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Officials said in the statement that they are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and supporting the ongoing investigation. &#8220;The safety and well-being of our residents and visitors remain our highest priority,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;We extend our sincere condolences to the child&#8217;s family and loved ones during this difficult time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is a developing story.
