Manufactured by Dutch amusement ride designer Vekoma, the attraction promises to open in 2027 — in time for Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ 35th anniversary.

Themed as a mining-train exploration that pays homage to the park’s location on the site of a former limestone quarry, Werewolf Gorge seeks to thrill visitors with four launches, a 40-foot drop, an 85-foot elevation change and 32 floater airtime moments interspersed through a crumbling quarry structure with supernatural elements. It digs deep on storytelling, building a world around the fictional character of Jasper Bunyan with interactive exhibits designed to create an immersive experience for guests from the start of the queue to the final line of track.

Park manager Robert Bustle called the ride a “defining addition” to Six Flags Fiesta Texas in a statement, adding that it “delivers an experience that is approachable for families, yet unmatched anywhere in the world.”

Teasers for the forthcoming attraction had been dropping since last year in the form of cryptic full moon images in the park, the corporation said, but the ride’s official unveiling came Saturday, timed alongside a rare blue full moon that played into the werewolf theme.

The new coaster joins a string of investments at Six Flags Entertainment Corp. parks across the country, kicked off by the 2024 merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair that established the entertainment giant as the largest amusement park operator in North America.

Six Flags did not share a cost estimate for the Werewolf Gorge project, but the corporation planned to spend roughly half a billion dollars each in 2025 and 2026 to fund new rides, attractions, dining areas and technology upgrades at several of its locations. Six Flags Fiesta Texas was not named in the initial list of parks slated to receive a new coaster when the expansion plan was first announced.

Arlington’s Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor both saw significant upgrades recently, with a record-breaking dive coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run, expected to open this year and seven new water slides constituting the “largest expansion in water park history.”

Six Flags is breaking new ground in Texas as part of its billion-dollar spending plan.
