OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. \u2013 The UCLA softball team dropped an 8-7 decision to Texas Tech in nine innings in an elimination contest at the Women’s College World Series at Devon Park on Sunday evening.

\nThe Bruins (53-10) went 1-2 at this season’s Women’s College World Series, seeking a win over Texas Tech in a pressure-packed showdown on Sunday night for the opportunity to rematch against Alabama in the semifinals.

\nAs the game’s designated home team, UCLA used a three-run seventh inning to tie the game 6-6. The Bruins trailed 6-4, down to their final out. After a scoreless eighth frame, Texas Tech snapped the 6-6 deadlock with two runs in the top of the ninth inning.

\n\u00a0

\nThe Red Raiders (59-8) navigated around baserunners and one run scored by the Bruins in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the win. Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady recorded the final two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with baserunners at first and second to end UCLA’s late threat.

\nWith two outs in the bottom of the seventh and UCLA trailing by a 6-4 margin, Jordan Woolery<\/a> belted a game-tying two-run home run to keep the Bruins in the contest. Woolery’s second home run of the game helped UCLA rally back from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh. She had belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, putting the Bruins ahead 2-1.<\/p>\n

“Because loyalty is big. Family is important being a Bruin,” said UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez<\/a> when asked about her senior class. “They’re loyal Bruins who took care of the program. As a result, I believe the game paid them back. We had a historic year for them when we didn’t know what this year was going to be. I’m not even sad. I’m so proud that I got to coach them. I’m so proud they were seniors, they influenced the younger Bruins, how gutsy they are.

\nTexas Tech’s two-run ninth inning included a run-scoring double to left-center field by Kaitlyn Terry<\/a> and one run on a fielding error with the bases loaded and two outs.

\nTerry limited UCLA to two runs and five hits through five innings in relief of Canady. Terry and Canady alternated in the circle over the game’s final six innings. Canady (27-6) picked up the win for Texas Tech, allowing five runs and five hits in four innings.

\nTexas Tech overcame an early 2-1 deficit against UCLA, taking advantage of a pair of three-hit performances from leadoff hitter Mi Williams and Mihyi Davis. Williams went 3-for-5 at the plate with one home run, one hit-by-pitch and a team-leading three runs. Davis was 3-for-6 with one double and one run.

\nWoolery finished 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs, while Rylee Slimp<\/a> was 2-for-5 with two runs at the plate for the Bruins.

\nThe Bruins’ remarkable three-run rally in the seventh inning opened with a pinch-hit leadoff home run by Ramsey Suarez<\/a>, cutting Texas Tech’s lead to 6-4. Jazmine Leyva<\/a> reached first on a pinch-hit single with no outs. After two UCLA batters recorded outs, Woolery’s home run tied the game 6-6.

\nBruins’ pitcher Taylor Tinsley<\/a> (33-8) threw all nine innings in the circle, allowing eight runs (seven earned) and 14 hits. She totaled seven strikeouts and six walks.

\nCanady started in the circle for the Red Raiders, allowing three runs and three hits through the first 2 1\/3 innings.

\nThe lead changed hands multiple times in the game’s first two innings. UCLA responded to a 1-0 first-inning deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Woolery’s two-run blast to center field put the Bruins ahead, 2-1.

\nThe Red Raiders answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, claiming a 3-2 advantage. Texas Tech tied the contest 2-2 on a leadoff home run by Jasmyn Burns. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jackie Lis drew a run-scoring walk to put Texas Tech on top 3-2.

\nThe Bruins tied the game 3-3, with one run in the bottom of the third.

\nTexas Tech added one run in the top of the fourth inning to lead, 4-3, and scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to push ahead, 6-3. The Red Raiders’ two-run sixth inning included a one-out solo home run by Williams and a sacrifice fly to right field by Taylor Pannell, sending home Lauren Allred from third base.

\nUCLA concluded its 2026 softball campaign with a 53-10 record, advancing to the Women’s College World Series for the third consecutive season.
