Both towns are known for scenic views, walkable downtowns, local shops, restaurants and easy access to the kind of slower-paced lifestyle that can make healthy routines feel more attainable.

Port Aransas earned its spot for a different kind of laid-back lifestyle.

The Gulf Coast town’s “laid-back coastal rhythm” helps residents stay active, spend more time outside and maintain lower-stress routines, according to the study.

The report found that many Texans strongly connect small-town living with a better shot at longevity. Communities on the list tended to share traits like walkability, access to nature, slower routines and close social connections.

Still, Texans were split on whether they are doing enough to reach the century mark.

According to the survey, 52% of Texans said they believe they are currently doing enough to maximize their chances of living to 100. Another 48% said they do not feel they are doing enough to support their long-term health.

While many respondents agreed that luck and genetics play a role, they said everyday factors mattered most, including where they live, their work-life balance, diet, exercise and stress levels.

A total of 150 communities were ranked in the study.

St. Augustine, Florida; Kula, Hawaii; and Dunedin, Florida took the top three spots, respectively, among towns where people said they felt most optimistic about living to 100.

<img alt="Blue Hole Regional Park, Wimberley Texas.
