Global electronics giant Samsung is moving its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Texas later this year; news which comes less than a year after Samsung opened its gleaming HQ in Englewood Cliffs<\/a>, a spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The soon-to-be-former 312,000-square-foot Englewood Cliffs HQ is the home of 1,200 employees and features a cafeteria, fitness center, grocery store and even an arcade.<\/p>\n

“Samsung Electronics America Inc. is undergoing a business transformation designed to better position our organization for long-term growth and future success,” reads a statement emailed by Samsung spokesperson Chris Langlois.<\/p>\n

The transition will be completed by the end of 2026, the statement from Langlois reads.<\/p>\n

“As part of this effort, we are relocating our U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to our existing campus in Plano, Texas,” he continued.<\/p>\n

Samsung\u2019s advanced semiconductor manufacturing, research and development is based in Austin, while the business office for its mobile and network operations is based in the city of Plano.<\/p>\n

The news was first reported by South Korean newspaper Yonhap News Agency<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We recognize such adjustments will have an impact on our people and we will be providing support to those affected,” Langlois continued.<\/p>\n

Critics of New Jersey\u2019s government said the announcement was the result of what they\u2019ve characterized as an anti-business climate in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are not accidents, nor are they coincidences,\u201d said Michele Siekerka, president of the lobbying group the New Jersey Business and Industry Association. \u201cWe must take heed of the loss of these large job creators and avoid damaging policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Samsung office at 700 Sylvan Ave. in Englewood Cliffs was previously occupied by consumer goods company Unilever, which moved its own HQ <\/a>to Hoboken on the Hudson River last year.<\/p>\n

Representatives for Gov. Mikie Sherrill\u2019s office did not immediately return emails Tuesday morning seeking comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cTexas didn\u2019t win Samsung by accident,\u201d New Jersey Assemblyman John Azzariti, R-Bergen, said in a Monday evening statement.. “They won because they have spent years creating an environment where businesses want to invest, grow and create jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMeanwhile, New Jersey continues to raise costs, add regulations and send the message that employers are little more than a revenue source for government.”<\/p>\n

According to the Texas Economic Development Corporation<\/a>, hundreds of corporations have relocated to Texas, citing its \u201cpro-business climate\u201d and \u201cyoung and growing workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n
