<\/p>\nWFAA is partnering with the Tarrant Area Food Bank and North Texas Food Bank to combat summer hunger with the Nourish North Texas Telethon. <\/p>\n
DALLAS \u2014 Summer is a season of fun for so many North Texas families, but it can also be a time of uncertainty for those who face food insecurity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One in six Texans face hunger, including 442,000 children who are particularly vulnerable during the summer months when school lunches are no longer available. In response to this great need, WFAA is partnering with two local food banks to raise money and keep families fed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

WFAA, along with the Tarrant Area Food Bank and North Texas Food Bank, will come together for the annual Nourish North Texas Telethon, presented by H-E-B, the organizations announced in a press release Monday. H-E-B will match donations up to $100,000, doubling the impact of every donation.\u00a0<\/p>\n The sixth annual event will air live from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, to mobilize viewers to help keep kids fed while school is out, the release states. This year, WFAA and its partner organizations aim to raise enough money to provide one million meals for children in North Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEvery summer, we see families working incredibly hard to stretch their budgets, and too many still fall short,\u201d said Carolyn Mungo, president and general manager of WFAA. \u201cThe telethon is our opportunity to stand with them. When our viewers come together, the impact is immediate and deeply felt. We\u2019re committed to shining a light on this issue and supporting the food banks that serve our community every day.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0Texas leads the nation in the number of residents facing food insecurity, according to Feeding America\u2019s 2025 Map the Meal Gap report. The Dallas-Fort Worth area, in particular, has the highest food-insecure population in the state and the third highest among U.S. Metro areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n Both food banks have served the community for more than 40 years, distributing nutritious food to children and families across 25 counties.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cHunger is one of the most solvable challenges we face, and summer is when our support matters most,\u201d said Mabrie Jackson, managing director of public affairs for H\u2011E\u2011B\/Central Market. \u201cH\u2011E\u2011B is proud to continue this partnership with WFAA, NTFB, and TAFB. When Texans join forces, we make sure our neighbors\u2014especially children\u2014have the nourishment they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n The Nourish North Texas campaign is supported by WFAA Channel 8<\/a>, H\u2011E\u2011B<\/a>, 4Change Energy<\/a>, LXP Industrial Trust<\/a>, National Life Group<\/a>, and many additional partners dedicated to reducing food insecurity across the region.<\/p>\n
