{"id":320002,"date":"2026-06-03T00:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T00:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/320002\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T00:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T00:20:09","slug":"epa-to-conduct-low-flying-radiation-monitoring-flights-over-dallas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/320002\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA to conduct low-flying radiation monitoring flights over Dallas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents in parts of Dallas and Arlington may spot a low-flying aircraft on several dates this summer as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">federal officials<\/a> prepare for the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will fly a specialized aircraft at low altitude over parts of Dallas and Arlington to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/emergency-response\/aspect\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">measure normal background radiation levels<\/a> before the\u00a0FIFA World Cup kicks off and ahead of some games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The flights are part of security and emergency preparedness planning, not because officials have detected a threat or radiation problem, according to a press release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Residents may notice a low-flying aircraft over downtown Dallas, Fair Park, the Cotton Bowl and AT&amp;T Stadium on June 3, June 28 and July 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plane is collecting baseline environmental data, specifically normal radiological readings, according to the EPA. Having a baseline allows authorities to quickly identify unusual radiation levels if an emergency or security incident were to occur during World Cup events.<\/p>\n<p>The operation is being coordinated with the FBI, Homeland Security, local governments and World Cup organizers as part of broader security preparations.<\/p>\n<p>No information about the exact altitude and how long each flight will last was provided, nor whether the public will be able to access any of the data collected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The city of Dallas directed all questions to the EPA.
