A surprising\u00a0late season cold front<\/a> is about to hit Texas in just hours. Coupled with storm odds and cloud cover, temperatures across several Texas cities will see a dip, forecasters say. It won\u2019t exactly be chilly. But as meteorological summer heats up the afternoons, it\u2019ll bring a welcome (if short lived) reprieve from 90-degree days.<\/p>\n

According to the latest from the National Weather Service, a \u201cbackdoor\u201d cold front<\/a> (northern air moving south or southwest rather than west to east) is set to send Texas temperature gauges dipping. While it\u2019ll bring a welcome cooldown Tuesday night, June 2, and into Wednesday, it\u2019s also part of a severe storm risk.<\/p>\n

In fact, the agency says an isolated supercell \u2013 storm systems which carry the potential for the most dangerous severe impacts \u2013 can\u2019t be ruled out in the Texas Panhandle<\/a>. Though, severe odds are relatively low, so the wildest of weather would likely be confined to isolated areas.<\/p>\n

On the upside, a double-digit temperature drop is in the cards for this region. Several afternoons in the 90s will be met with Wednesday highs that should linger in the mid-70s. Even if there is a roughly 60% to 70% chance of thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

North Texas, including the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex,<\/a> will see a milder cooldown into the upper 80s. But rain odds also dip significantly into the 20% to 30% range.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a similar story further down south, reaching San Antonio, Austin and the Texas Hill Country. Afternoon temperatures will finally dip below 90 degrees and stay there through the end of the week. Cloud coverage from rising storm odds headed into the weekend ought to keep those temperatures on the cooler side for several days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A surprising\u00a0late season cold front is about to hit Texas in just hours.
