NHLI via Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph daily-morning-buzz \">The Stars have \u201cchosen Plano for their future home,\u201d signing a nonbinding letter of intent to \u201cbuild an arena and entertainment district at The Shops at Willow Bend site.\u201d The letter was submitted to the Plano City Council and \u201cplaced on the agenda for a vote during Monday\u2019s meeting.\u201d The decision comes a day after the Mavericks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/01\/mavericks-choose-north-dallas-mall-site-for-arena-entertainment-district\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/01\/mavericks-choose-north-dallas-mall-site-for-arena-entertainment-district\/\">moved to secure the former Valley View Mall site<\/a> for their potential arena and entertainment district. The two exits would leave American Airlines Center \u201cwithout its two biggest draws\u201d after both leases expire in 2031. The Stars\u2019 move has been \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/03\/01\/stars-have-talked-with-plano-about-new-arena-no-formal-offer-made\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/03\/01\/stars-have-talked-with-plano-about-new-arena-no-formal-offer-made\/\">telegraphed for months<\/a>,\u201d driven by the \u201cpursuit of a more sustainable business model and unfolding at the same time as the Mavericks pursued both a new arena and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/01\/dallas-divide-mavericks-stars-arena-feud-reveals-pressures-of-soaring-valuations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/01\/dallas-divide-mavericks-stars-arena-feud-reveals-pressures-of-soaring-valuations\/\">legal action against the Stars<\/a>.\u201d The Stars spoke to \u201cat least eight other cities about relocating, including Frisco, The Colony, Arlington and Forth Worth\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/stars\/article\/dallas-stars-arena-plano-willow-bend-mall-22204289.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/stars\/article\/dallas-stars-arena-plano-willow-bend-mall-22204289.php\">DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6\/2<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph daily-morning-buzz \">Plano \u201cintends to contribute\u201d up to $700M toward the arena through bonds backed by a 30-year Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, provided total development costs equal or exceed $1B. Dallas Sports &amp; Entertainment, the parent company of the team, would be \u201cresponsible for all costs above that city contribution.\u201d The city would \u201cown both the arena and the site, then enter into a 30-year lease\u201d with the Stars. Stars\u2019 ownership would \u201cretain all revenues generated from arena operations, including sponsorship and naming rights\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/starlocalmedia.com\/planocourier\/news\/dallas-stars-plan-for-1-billion-arena-at-willow-bend-site\/article_84dd486e-ebda-42b0-b9ff-9ac4b7ea4fc9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/starlocalmedia.com\/planocourier\/news\/dallas-stars-plan-for-1-billion-arena-at-willow-bend-site\/article_84dd486e-ebda-42b0-b9ff-9ac4b7ea4fc9.html\">PLANO STAR COURIER, 6\/2<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/D4UYLIQFISVWE2PIZZXT7XSU6M.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>After the Protect College Sports Act&#8217;s introduction last week, Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey both said that they \u201cwanted to review the legislation before expressing support.\u201d Imagn Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph daily-morning-buzz \">The Big Ten and SEC released a joint statement on Tuesday, saying they do \u201cnot support the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/05\/27\/college-sports-bill-proposes-salary-cap-more-reform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/05\/27\/college-sports-bill-proposes-salary-cap-more-reform\/\">Protect College Sports Act<\/a> as drafted.\u201d The conferences said that the bill proposed by U.S. Sens. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/02\/sen-ted-cruz-talks-protect-college-sports-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/02\/sen-ted-cruz-talks-protect-college-sports-act\/\">Ted Cruz<\/a> (R-Texas) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) \u201cleaves critical issues unresolved.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph daily-morning-buzz \">They noted it does \u201cnot meaningfully preempt the patchwork of state laws or provide the protections needed to make and enforce consistent rules.\u201d It also \u201cshifts ongoing rulemaking to Congress, limiting the ability to adapt quickly as the landscape evolves.\u201d It also \u201calters the House settlement revenue sharing framework in a way that may result in fewer student-athletes receiving direct revenue share payments.\u201d The conferences said that they are \u201ccommitted to working with Senators Cruz and Cantwell and other members of Congress to improve this legislation\u201d (SBJ). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph daily-morning-buzz \">The statement comes ahead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/01\/sources-football-player-added-to-witness-list-for-college-sports-senate-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/01\/sources-football-player-added-to-witness-list-for-college-sports-senate-hearing\/\">Wednesday hearing on the bill<\/a>.
