{"id":321589,"date":"2026-06-03T22:39:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T22:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/321589\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T22:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T22:39:15","slug":"usda-investigating-possible-new-world-screwworm-case-in-south-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/321589\/","title":{"rendered":"USDA investigating possible New World screwworm case in south Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; A case of the New World screwworm may have been detected in south Texas, according to a statement released by the USDA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The agency said it has activated personnel on the ground and is working with local partners to prevent any potential spread.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The agency has not said where exactly the parasite was found but said it was captured and has been transported to its National Veterinary Services Lab in Ames, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Reuters is reporting the samples were taken from two calves on a ranch in La Pryor, Texas, about 50 miles from the Mexican border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The news comes a day after USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins disputed a claim from south Texas Representative Don McLaughlin, who reported a case one mile away from the border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She claimed it was \u201cfalse information\u201d and the fly was still 25 miles away from the border.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
