{"id":321632,"date":"2026-06-03T23:04:06","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T23:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/321632\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T23:04:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T23:04:06","slug":"silent-wings-museum-to-commemorate-82nd-anniversary-of-d-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/321632\/","title":{"rendered":"Silent Wings Museum to commemorate 82nd anniversary of D-Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; The Silent Wings Museum will offer free admission Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the Normandy invasion. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">More than 500 Allied gliders landed behind enemy lines in Normandy during the early hours of June 6, 1944 and continued into June 7, carrying supplies, troops and vehicles to secure strategic areas inland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Silent Wings Museum will feature vintage World War II aircraft and vehicle displays, children\u2019s activities, screenings of the documentary \u2018D-Day Remembered\u2019 and a guided experience called \u2018D-Day Moments.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Schedule of events: <\/p>\n<p>11 AM HANGAR GALLERY &#8211; Playing of the National Anthem11:05 AM THEATER &#8211; Eisenhower\u2019s Address to the Troops11:30 AM HANGAR GALLERY &#8211; D-Day Moments &#8211; A Guided Experience1 PM HANGAR GALLERY &#8211; Weapons Demonstration1:30 PM HANGAR GALLERY &#8211; D-Day Moments &#8211; A Guided Experience2 PM HANGAR GALLERY &#8211; Packing the Musette Bag Demonstratio<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Aircraft appearances include a C-47 \u2018Southern Cross\u2019 from the Greatest Generation Aircraft and World War II era aircraft from the Texas Air Museum in Slaton and BLue Sky Airfield. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The museum will be open from from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
