At the time, district officials said Deputy Superintendent David Bates would oversee financial operations during the transition.<\/p>\n<p>According to resignation records obtained by KFOX14\/CBS4, Aguirre formally resigned from her position effective May 15, 2026. The personnel separation document lists her reason for leaving as &#8220;personal reasons&#8221; and confirms her position as Chief Financial Officer was vacated.<\/p>\n<p>However, a resignation letter included in the records provides additional details about her decision.<\/p>\n<p>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/kfoxtv.com\/news\/local\/el-paso-isd-chief-financial-officer-resigns-as-district-faces-budget-shortfalls?SRC=LINK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">El Paso ISD chief financial officer resigns as district faces budget shortfalls<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Throughout my career, I&#8217;ve worked hard and have taken great pride in contributing to the district&#8217;s work,&#8221; Aguirre wrote. &#8220;I have made the decision to step away from a work environment where I do not feel my contributions recognized or respected.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, Aguirre also wrote that an &#8220;expressed lack of confidence&#8221; in her technical abilities and what she described as repeated dismissive responses to information she shared made it increasingly difficult for her to continue effectively in her role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have made the decision to step away from a work environment where I do not feel my contributions recognized or respected,\u201d Aguirre wrote in the letter addressed to Lusk. \u201cYour expressed lack of confidence in my technical abilities, along with repeated dismissive responses to the information I have shared has made it increasingly difficult for me to continue effectively in my role.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aguirre had served EPISD for approximately 12 years and previously held the role of interim superintendent following the departure of former Superintendent Diana Sayavedra in 2025. <\/p>\n<p>Read the full letter below:<\/p>\n<p>Aguirre resigned just days after alerting Superintendent Dr. Brian Lusk and his team that the district faced a $52 million budget deficit. <\/p>\n<p>The El Paso ISD board is set to vote on Thursday on declaring a financial exigency.
