{"id":322405,"date":"2026-06-04T11:31:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T11:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/322405\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T11:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T11:31:09","slug":"north-east-isd-avoids-conservator-after-cell-phone-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/322405\/","title":{"rendered":"North East ISD avoids conservator after cell phone policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img width=\"640\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/GettyImages-999231414-640x400.jpg\" class=\"object-cover wp-post-image\" alt=\"North East ISD avoids conservator after cell phone policy\" post-type=\"post\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\tClose-up of a line of high school students using mobile phones.\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) \u2014 A legal dispute over cell phone policy appears to be resolved, and this will allow North East ISD to avoid a state-appointed conservator.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Education Agency had threated to take that action after months of controversy over the district\u2019s student cell phone policy.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning last year, state law prohibited students from using cell phones during the school day, and most districts, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktsa.com\/san-antonio-isd-board-approves-policy-banning-cellphones-during-school-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">San Antonio ISD<\/a>, complied. But NEISD chose to interpret the term \u2018school day\u2019 to mean cell phones could be used at certain times while instruction was not taking place.<\/p>\n<p>TEA disagreed, and NEISD <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktsa.com\/neisd-votes-to-keep-cell-phone-policy-in-place-goes-against-order-from-tea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">doubled-down<\/a> on the policy until April, at which point the policy was revised.<\/p>\n<p>As of the coming school year, students in the district will not be allowed to use cell phones bell-to-bell.<\/p>\n<p>A growing number of school districts around the United States have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktsa.com\/banning-cellphones-in-schools-gains-popularity-in-red-and-blue-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">banning<\/a> cell phones in public schools, and many private schools have adopted similar measures.<\/p>\n<p>More about:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Close-up of a line of high school students using mobile phones.
