ABILENE, Texas (KTAB\/KRBC<\/a>) \u2013 The Food Bank of West Central Texas held its first Senior Resource Day on Thursday. Information on local resources, including organizations offering healthcare services, housing assistance and more, was available as people came through the drive-thru food pantry.<\/p>\n

Patrick Dembach, Director of Operations for the Food Bank, said this is something they have been thinking about for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always understood the problem faced by seniors, especially those who are homebound,\u201d Demback said. \u201cSo, we\u2019re hoping that this not only reaches people who can get out, but those who cannot get out may get assistance from friends, neighbors, family members, whomever, and so that\u2019s what our goal is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first Thursday of every month, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., will be senior-focused at the food bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cIncome eligibility, that\u2019s the one requirement. Fifty-five and over is the desire, but anybody else who shows up and there may be a need, we\u2019re certainly going to welcome them,\u201d Deback said. \u201cWe don\u2019t deny anyone who needs food.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to first Thursdays, the food bank has general distribution from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on second Saturdays, and from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on third Mondays.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe chose hours when the other resources were at a minimum,\u201d Demback said. \u201cSo, we are now available to cover that little gap.\u201d<\/p>\n
