SAN ANTONIO \u2013 The Texas Education Agency (TEA) rescinded its recommendation to appoint a TEA conservator to oversee<\/a> North East Independent School District\u2019s cellphone policy Tuesday.<\/p>\n \u201cThe TEA will not appoint a conservator for our District,\u201d NEISD interim Superintendent Anthony Jarrett said in a letter addressed to district families.<\/p>\n The TEA initially recommended the conservator appointment in April because the agency believed the cellphone policy did not align with state law and the guidance.<\/p>\n During a special meeting with the NEISD Board of Trustees in April<\/a>, the district voted to revise its policy to implement a bell-to-bell cellphone ban for the 2026-27 school year, according to the letter from Jarrett.<\/p>\n >>NEISD trustees vote to comply with TEA, waive student cell phone policy after investigation<\/a><\/p>\n A conservator would provide support to NEISD staff, recommend improvements and report updates to TEA, according to its website.<\/p>\n The TEA pulled its recommendation back because the agency \u201cconsiders this (cellphone ban) matter resolved,\u201d Jarrett said.<\/p>\n The interim superintendent said the district will continue communicating with families about expectations and next steps as it begins planning for the new policy\u2019s implementation. <\/p>\n More related coverage of this story on KSAT:<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 by KSAT – All rights reserved.<\/p>\n About the AuthorsSamuel Rocha IV headshotSamuel Rocha IV<\/a><\/p>\n Samuel Rocha joined KSAT as a Newsroom Trainee in the spring of 2026.
