Arlington police arrested Aleq Holmes and charged him with capital murder. The department says more arrests are possible.<\/p>\n

ARLINGTON, Texas \u2014 Arlington police have arrested a suspect in connection with the March 2026 shooting death of 20-year-old Malachi Hayes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The department said in a news release that homicide detectives obtained a warrant for 20-year-old Aleq Holmes on a charge of capital murder. On June 4, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force found Holmes in Grand Prairie and took him into custody.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened March 26 at a convenience store in the 2100 block of East Abram Street. Officers responding to the scene found Hayes unresponsive in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n

Investigators say they identified Holmes as a suspect after reviewing digital evidence and interviewing witnesses. Detectives believe Hayes and Holmes may have been involved in a high-risk activity related to a firearm transaction when the shooting took place.<\/p>\n
