EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 An El Paso mother was sentenced on Tuesday to almost two years of probation after she was caught driving drunk with her newborn baby in the car.<\/p>\n

According to court records, Ivana Dolores Salazar pled guilty to DWI on Tuesday and was sentenced to 20 months of probation and 100 hours of community service after she was caught on April 6, 2025, driving drunk at the 3900 Rich Beem Boulevard in Far East El Paso. <\/p>\n

Court records show that Salazar was also first sentenced to one year in prison; however, that sentence was suspended. <\/p>\n

Salazar was pulled over at around 1:28 a.m. for not signaling a lane change.<\/p>\n

Deputies said they spotted a clear glass cup with an unknown red liquid, suspecting that she could be driving drunk. <\/p>\n

Salazar told deputies she was alone in the vehicle, explaining that she had just gotten off work and was driving to pick up her newborn baby.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t until the deputies arrested Salazar and searched her vehicle that they learned that her five-month-old baby was in a rear car seat– not properly secured. <\/p>\n

At that point, Salazar became uncooperative and claimed she did not know the baby was in the car, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The child was taken to The Hospitals of Providence East Campus to be medically evaluated before Child Protective Services were notified of the incident and the baby was released to a responsible party.<\/p>\n
