But those details are still kind of up in the air right now.”

Known for its iconic red farmhouse building and red checkered tablecloths, the Barn Door sits on property formerly owned by San Antonio’s well-connected Strauss family. The 1.6-acre lot at 8400 N. New Braunfels Ave. is valued at $1.9 million, Bexar County records show.

Calvillo told the San Antonio Report that constructing a new building will allow Soluna to offer a second story with a rooftop bar and kitchen along with a first-floor dining room and two separate patios. The restaurant is locating from 7959 Broadway #204, just a few blocks away.

The new Soluna will make its debut around Fiesta 2028, Calvillo also told the San Antonio Report.

The Barn Door shut down on Mother’s Day of this year after serving up steaks and comfort food for more than seven decades. Opened by Bill Tassos in 1953, the restaurant with red-checkered tablecloths and a timeless vibe became known as a place not just for date nights and family get togethers but also for closing business deals.

Sign Up for SA Current newsletters.

Follow us: Apple News | Google News | NewsBreak | Reddit | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Or sign up for our RSS Feed

Related Stories

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="600" height="450" src="https://www.newsbeep.com/us-tx/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/pete_s.png" class="attachment-newspack-article-block-landscape-intermediate size-newspack-article-block-landscape-intermediate wp-post-image" alt="The 25 best places to get breakfast tacos in San Antonio right now" data-hero-candidate="1" data-attachment-id="2242" data-permalink="https://www.sacurrent.com/food-drink/the-25-most-popular-san-antonio-tex-mex-restaurants-right-now-according-to-yelp-34900871/attachment/pete_s/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.sacurrent.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/pete_s.png?fit=654%2C620&ssl=1" data-orig-size="654,620" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="pete_s" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="<p>Pete’s Tako House<br />
502 Brooklyn Ave., (210) 224-2911, petestakohouse.com<br />
Pete’s Tako House is a must for those in search of some solid taqueria vibes in the downtown area.
