Texas Workforce Commission<\/a> recently put out its annual study of self-sufficiency per county, determining how much money is required for a family to meet basic needs \u201cwhile maintaining self-sufficiency.\u201d<\/p>\nBased on Texas\u2019 average family size of 1.6 children, Collin County has a self-sufficient wage (a.k.a living wage) of $21.46 per hour for individuals or $7,553 per month or $90,635 annually for a family.<\/p>\n
Collin County\u2019s population was 1,297,179, making it the sixth-largest county in Texas, after Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis. However, Collin County had the highest wage required for self-sufficiency out of any Texas county \u2014 nearly $10,000 more annually than Dallas County and about $15,000 more than Harris County.<\/p>\n
