EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 In 2019, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office deputy Carlos Ramirez was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind his wife, Jessica Ramirez, his son Alex, 11, and his daughter Ava, 5.<\/p>\n
Seven years later, now 18-year-old Alex Ramirez reached one of life’s many milestones, his high school graduation.<\/p>\n
Saturday, June 6, Alex was preparing to walk the stage to receive his diploma, graduating from Eastlake High School. To his surprise, members of law enforcement joined his side as they escorted him to the Don Haskins Center.<\/p>\n
“It was a really good surprise\u2014I loved the surprise,” Alex said.<\/p>\n
Law Enforcement from Kendall County Sheriff’s Office traveled down to El Paso to escort Alex, alongside the El Paso Police Department, El Paso Sheriff’s Office, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Police Department, Socorro Independent School District (SISD) Police Department and the Texas Guard Patriots Riders. Despite not being immediate family, the gesture reinforced within Alex the bond he will always have with his law enforcement family.<\/p>\n
“Anywhere I go, they are always going to be there. Even if my immediate family isn’t always there, I can always call them,” Alex said.<\/p>\n

Even though Deputy Carlos could not be at his son’s graduation, Alex’s mother knows in her heart just how proud his father would be.<\/p>\n
“I know he’d be proud of the man he has become; he’s humble, he’s loyal, he’s strong, kind-hearted. He’d be proud of everything\u2014I know he’s proud,” his mother, Jessica, said.<\/p>\n
Al Auxier, Sheriff of Kendall County, shared that they want to ensure that the memory of any officer lost in the line of duty is always respected and that they are given the honor for all their service.<\/p>\n
