El Paso could hit its first 100-degree day soon. Here’s when<\/p>\n

Sun City is about to live up to its name as triple-digit heat<\/a> is expected to arrive in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Clouds and rain chances<\/a> are expected to clear out as sunshine returns to the forecast, sending temperatures soaring starting this weekend. El Paso is expected to hit 100 degrees on Sunday, June 7, though if the temperature falls short, the National Weather Service says the triple digit mark should arrive by Monday or Tuesday, June 8-9.<\/p>\n

Triple digit heat is expected to continue next week, with rain chances diminishing after the weekend.<\/p>\n

If El Paso reaches triple digit, its first 100-degree temperature will be early this year \u2014 the average start date for triple digits in the Sun City is June 12, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

Heat safety tips<\/p>\n

Here are some tips on how to stay safe in the heat from the El Paso Department of Public Health:<\/p>\n

For homes, cover windows with drapes or shades, weatherstrip doors and windows and use window reflectors, such as aluminum foil-covered cardboard to reflect heat back outside.<\/p>\n

When outside, wear a wide hat and loose, lightweight, and light-colored clothing. Use a minimum SPF 15 sunscreen and apply at least 20 minutes before sun exposure with reapplication every two hours.<\/p>\n

Avoid strenuous activity in the heat, which may increase the risk of dehydration and lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.<\/p>\n

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and stay informed of extreme weather conditions.<\/p>\n

Never leave people or pets in a car, even for a minute.<\/p>\n
