The Grand Lawn at Epic Central was filled with grills, rotisseries and flavors to treat the hundreds of people who answered the call of hunger. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Initially, the event was scheduled for Saturday, June 6, but it was moved to Sunday due to weather.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
In May, Texas Monthly released its list of the 25 best new taquerias<\/a> in Texas. The author, taco editor Jos\u00e9 Ralat<\/a>, said the event was a taste of the best of the best in the state. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI am super excited that vendors from all over the state are coming; it\u2019s a long way, it\u2019s super exciting,\u201d Ralat said. \u00a0<\/p>\n The event brought together 13 taquerias: Aqu\u00ed se Come, from Arlington; El Pastor es mi Se\u00f1or, from San Antonio; El Come Taco, from Dallas; Jimenez y Friends Barbecue y Taqueria, from Lubbock; Ki\u2019Mexico ETX, from Longview; Knight Out, from Fort Worth; Panfila Cantina, from San Antonio; Ramen del Barrio, from Austin; Resident Taqueria, from Dallas; Se\u00f1or Oink, from Farmers Branch; Taco King, from Plano; Taqueria MTZ, from Amarillo; and Vaqueros Texas Bar-B-Q, from Allen. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThe taco has already conquered Texas. It went from being a snack to a main course,\u201d\u00a0Ralat said. \u201cTacos are everywhere now \u2014 in homes, food trucks, and restaurants. It\u2019s the people\u2019s food, and there\u2019s a taco for everyone.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n Some of the most popular tacos were the trompo negro and\u00a0ribeye tacos served by Knight Out. Its chef, Osman Avila, said he was happy to have been included on the Texas Monthly list. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt even gives me goosebumps,\u201d\u00a0Avila said. \u201cWe\u2019re working hard here to be the best in the whole country.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n Another favorite was the al pastor taco from Panfila Cantina, featuring meat cooked in a smoker \u2014 not on a spit \u2014 and topped with grilled pineapple. Its chef, Charlie Gonzalez, said he was honored to be considered one of the best tacos in the state. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really glad that so many people can try our tacos here at this event,\u201d Gonzalez said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
