A Houston man has been arrested for the alleged killing of a father who was attempting to recover his son’s vehicle after it was stolen at gunpoint, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office<\/a>. <\/p>\n

London Hogan, 37, was arrested Sunday evening and has been charged with the murder of Louis Erebia, 56, after allegedly shooting Erebia on Saturday. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Hogan stole Erebia’s son’s vehicle, at which point Erebia confronted him. The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. in the 11800 block of Tidwell in Northeast Houston. <\/p>\n

Hogan has also been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. <\/p>\n

Erebia was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to Gonzalez. Another man was also shot, but survived his injuries. <\/p>\n

On Monday, Crime Stoppers Houston held a press conference with Erebia’s family and accused the justice system of failing to keep Hogan in custody after he allegedly violated his parole for a previous assault charge.<\/p>\n

April Aguirre, an advocate with Texas Crime Victims United, said that any others involved in the carjacking or shooting need to be brought to justice. <\/p>\n

“We are here today and we shouldn’t be,” Aguirre said. “This system has to work and if we continue to be lenient against violent offenders, good people pay the price.”<\/p>\n

According to Harris County court records, Hogan pleaded guilty to a charge of assault family violence in 2025 for choking a woman in 2023. He was sentenced to five years of probation as part of his plea agreement. Hogan was arrested in Louisiana along with another man in January 2025 for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into a federal prison, according to Louisiana news outlets<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Amber Burrough, Erebia’s sister-in-law, said Erebia was attempting to protect his son when he was shot and killed. <\/p>\n

“Louis didn’t get shot running to danger,” Burrough said. “Louis got shot running to protect. That is the person my brother [in-law] is. … We need justice for what happened to Louis. Louis is a good man. He’s got a legacy that’s going to last past this news conference.”<\/p>\n
