The blowback from Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction and becoming eligible to play for Texas Tech this fall<\/a> appears to be significant.<\/p>\n

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel<\/a>, Big Ten officials are expected to discuss a league-wide mandate to not schedule Texas Tech in any sports. This report comes after Nebraska and Georgia sent memos throughout their respective athletic departments instructing their coaches to not play Texas Tech, according to memos obtained by The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on recent developments, Georgia Athletics will not schedule future contests against Texas Tech until further notice,\u201d Georgia compliance director Will Lawler wrote in a memo. \u201cPlease review your sport\u2019s current schedules and future scheduling plans. If you have any contests currently scheduled against Texas Tech, or are actively engaged in scheduling discussions with Texas Tech, please notify your sports administrator as soon as possible so we can evaluate the situation and determine next steps.\u201d<\/p>\n

Texas Tech and Georgia do not have any football games scheduled and no other fall sports at Georgia currently have the Red Raiders on their schedule.<\/p>\n

“True integrity means holding your program accountable when things go wrong, not buying custom legislation or running to a local courtroom to bypass the rules,” Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said in a social media post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s important that we as institutions fight for the integrity of the game,” Brooks added in a statement to ESPN<\/a>. “We cannot continue to let state courts dictate eligibility. We must stand up for what’s right. This isn’t right. If we can’t agree on this, I don’t know what we can agree on.”<\/p>\n

The controversy comes just hours after a Lubbock County judge granted Sorsby a temporary injunction to play this year<\/a>, despite the fact he admitted to making thousands of bets while in college, including bets on Indiana football<\/a> games while he played for the Hoosiers. As of now, the only punishment Sorsby will face is a two-game suspension, a penalty proposed by Sorsby’s lawyers.<\/p>\n

The NCAA has since filed an appeal to a higher court in Texas.<\/p>\n
