The Public Works Department recently completed a comprehensive, $4.8 million overhaul of the roadway between South Collins Street and Sunnyvale Drive.<\/p>\n<p>The transformative project, which broke ground in July 2025 and wrapped up in May 2026, replaced a severely deteriorated asphalt roadway with durable, long-lasting concrete designed to withstand decades of traffic. This section of Mitchell Street is located south of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtontx.gov\/Parks-Places\/Parks-Trails\/Park-Finder\/Meadowbrook-Park\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Opens in a new window\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Meadowbrook Park<\/a> and east of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtontx.gov\/Parks-Places\/Parks-Trails\/Park-Finder\/Julia-Burgen-on-the-Greenway\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Opens in a new window\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Julia Burgen Park Linear Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the improvements stretch far beyond a fresh surface. This project modernized the neighborhood&#8217;s infrastructure from the underground up, delivering:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nSmoother, Safer Commutes: A brand-new concrete roadway with upgraded streetlights, high-visibility traffic signs, and fresh pavement markings.&#13;<br \/>\nEnhanced Neighborhood Reliability: Brand-new underground water and sanitary sewer mains, alongside upgraded storm drainage systems to better handle heavy rainfall.&#13;<br \/>\nImproved Sidewalks &amp; Accessibility: New, smooth sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps that make the neighborhood safer for strollers, wheelchairs, and pedestrians.&#13;<br \/>\nEco-Friendly Mobility: Newly installed bike lanes, completing another critical piece of the City of Arlington\u2019s Hike and Bike Master Plan.&#13;<br \/>\nFuture-Ready Tech: Lined fiber communication conduits installed beneath the surface to support future connectivity.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Funding for this major neighborhood revitalization was made possible through the voter-approved 2018 Bond Election, with additional support from Community Development Block Grants (CDBG).<\/p>\n<p>This project is just one piece of Arlington&#8217;s ongoing commitment to neighborhood infrastructure and the City Council priority to Enhance Mobility.
