The latest episode of the \u201cArlington Archives<\/a>\u201d podcast dives into one of Arlington\u2019s most ambitious and short\u2011lived attractions: the Seven Seas Marine Life Park, the marine\u2011themed counterpart to Six Flags Over Texas that entertained visitors from 1972 to 1975.<\/p>\n Hosted by longtime Arlington journalist O.K. Carter and co\u2011hosted by historian and content creator Zack Wilson, the episode titled \u201cA Whale of a Tale: Revisiting Seven Seas\u201d explores how Arlington once tried to build a world\u2011class marine park complete with orcas, penguins and high\u2011diving stunt performers.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a kind of a short lived but ambitious Arlington Marine Park, 1972 to 1975 that the city later rebranded,\u201d Carter said. \u201cIt rebranded as Hawaii Kai for a final 1976 season before closing permanently.\u201d<\/p>\n Carter and Wilson also examine the site\u2019s evolution.<\/p>\n Wilson, who runs a dedicated Seven Seas Facebook group<\/a> for former visitors, employees and local history fans, encourages residents to join and share memories of the park.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a whole community out there keeping these stories alive,\u201d he said. \u201cIt’s free to join and people can post pictures. Share memories, and you can ask questions. \u201cIt’s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n Under city leaders\u2019 direction, the property was redeveloped into what became the Sheraton Arlington Hotel, which was demolished earlier this month to make way for the 507-Room Americana by Loews Hotel<\/a>.<\/p>\n Produced in celebration of Arlington\u2019s sesquicentennial in 2026, the series features voices from historians, city leaders and longtime residents.
