Karmelo Anthony is being housed in isolation, separated from other inmates, following his conviction for the murder of Austin Metcalf<\/a>, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old, who was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday, is being kept in a more secure area of Collin County Jail in Texas, away from the general inmate population, as authorities at the prison look to ensure the safety and security of all inmates, a representative told The Post Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Anthony is in custody at the Collin County Sheriff\u2019s Office Detention Facility. He is not housed in the general inmate population,\u201d the rep said.<\/p>\n

The rep did not give any comment on exactly why Anthony specifically is being kept in isolation.<\/p>\n

Anthony, who was found guilty of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Metcalf at a track meet in April 2025, will ultimately move to a state prison to serve his sentence, although no exact date has been given for the transfer from county lockup.<\/p>\n

A jury<\/a> in McKinney, Texas, took just three hours<\/a> to convict Anthony of murder, after the teen claimed that he had acted in self-defense, despite Metcalf being unarmed while his killer had a knife.<\/p>\n

Anthony walked into a rival high school\u2019s tent before getting into an altercation with Metcalf, which ended with Anthony fatally stabbing the teen.<\/p>\n

The force of the attack left a large, gaping wound, piercing Metcalf\u2019s heart, according to emotional testimony from Collin County Chief Medical Examiner Dr Elizabeth Ventura.<\/p>\n

Though he was 17 at the time of the murder, Anthony was able to be charged as an adult under Texas law.<\/p>\n

Karmelo Anthony will be kept in a more secure area of Collin County Jail. Collin County Sheriff’s Office<\/p>\n

However, because of his age, he was too young to face the death penalty.<\/p>\n

A civil rights group that advocated for Anthony complained that none of his jurors were black<\/a>.<\/p>\n
