Jaydon Blue seems ready to turn around his NFL career. The second-year Dallas Cowboys running back is looking to leave behind an underwhelming rookie year. Despite ending the preseason on a very positive note, Blue surprisingly spent most of the season as a healthy scratch. <\/p>\n
In 2026, head coach Brian Schottenheimer (who cited work ethic and consistency as what kept Blue inactive) said the running back is \u201cnight and day\u201d<\/a> from last year. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday<\/a>, Blue reinforced Schotty\u2019s messaging. <\/p>\n Jaydon Blue gives his version of events<\/p>\n Perhaps the most promising aspect of Blue\u2019s take on what happened in 2025 is that he\u2019s not running from it. <\/p>\n \u201cReally, we were all on the same page,\u201d Blue said of his conversations with the Cowboys. \u201cFor me, I think I didn\u2019t start off like I should have. Maybe it was not practicing the right way or, just on a maturity level, I think I wasn\u2019t really there.\u201d <\/p>\n Blue didn\u2019t dive too deep into the \u201cmaturity\u201d concerns, but he acknowledged them. Speaking about what he needs to do moving forward, Blue suggested he wasn\u2019t practicing the right way. <\/p>\n \u201cJust making sure I\u2019m practicing the right way,\u201d Blue said. \u201cWhether that\u2019s finishing the right way, setting the standard, and making sure that I\u2019m finishing runs and everything like that. I think that was the biggest part. And the maturity thing, man. I just think I\u2019m a completely different person than what I was at this time last year.\u201d <\/p>\n For Blue, the focus is on applying his coaches\u2019 feedback. <\/p>\n \u201cLooking back and seeing the things that I didn\u2019t do too well and some of the reasons that I wasn\u2019t on the field last year,\u201d Blue said. \u201cLike I said, just going back, taking the stuff that my coaches were saying and making sure that I apply it, whether that was this offseason or whenever I\u2019m by myself.\u201d <\/p>\n Blue is an early offseason winner based on Cowboys OTAs<\/p>\n Blue still has a long way to go before he earns the RB2 role in Dallas. But if he keeps approaching practice the right way, he can have a big role on the offense. The Cowboys run game was solid and efficient but it wasn\u2019t really explosive. <\/p>\n With his speed and acceleration, Blue can change that and become the cross to Javonte Williams\u2019 jab.
