Sarah Ann Pate Green, a woman who never expected to marry or have children, died 06-09-2026 at The Waterford On Cooper memory care facility in Arlington, Texas, where she had been a resident for 3 years. She was 93 years old.<\/p>\n
Born on April 9, 1933 to Iva Mae and Arthur Pate as their only child, Sarah had embraced a life of independence while working at TP&L. But a simple date for a Coke in late 1962 changed everything. On August 10, 1963, she married Gordon Green, a recent widower, becoming an instant wife and mother to three children with only on-the-job training as preparation.<\/p>\n
The newlyweds\u2019 honeymoon was a brief weekend trip to Dallas as Gordon had three children to raise and a business to manage. Sarah stepped into the challenging role of following JoAnn Green, Gordon\u2019s first wife, who was remembered by all as an exceptional woman and mother.<\/p>\n
Sarah\u2019s parenting style leaned toward discipline, but those who knew her understood her fierce love and protection for her children. As the years passed, she softened into a warm grandmother who was known for her gracious hospitality to visiting family.<\/p>\n
In her life, Sarah faced numerous challenges with remarkable resilience. Gordon preceded her in death in 2002. She was a breast cancer survivor who also battled hearing loss, high blood pressure, and congestive heart failure. Ultimately, she succumbed to Alzheimer\u2019s dementia.<\/p>\n
Her strong Christian faith remained a cornerstone throughout her life. Sarah demonstrated how unexpected life changes can lead to profound purpose when met with courage and grace.<\/p>\n
She is survived by three step children: Joella Brazile of Arlington, Texas; Ronald Green of Sumner, Texas; and Debbie Dean of Paris, Texas; eight step-grandchildren; and many step-great grandchildren.<\/p>\n
Sarah\u2019s life stands as a testament to adaptability, proof that life\u2019s most meaningful chapters may begin when we least expect them.<\/p>\n
Sarah had many wonderful friends. Everyone is invited to a graveside service that will be held at Meadowbrook Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. \u00a0No formal visitation hour will be observed. \u00a0Her body will lie in state from 11:00 am to 8:00 PM Friday for those wishing to sign the guest book and pay their respects.<\/p>\n
