A gunman was barricaded in a building in Midland, Texas, on Friday morning after a shooting that killed at least one person and left 11 victims, officials said. <\/p>\n

Officers responded to an active shooter incident in the 4600 block of West Wall Street and heard \u201cgunfire coming from the building,\u201d police said. <\/p>\n
Nine victims were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, a spokesperson for the hospital said. Four were undergoing surgeries and five are stable. <\/p>\n
The scene was quickly secured and the area cleared, but efforts to end the standoff remain ongoing, the city said in a Facebook post<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are absolutely with the victims, and with their families,\u201d Mayor Lori Blong said at a news conference. <\/p>\n Blong said a perimeter was established and the suspect was \u201ccontained.\u201d SWAT is on the scene and multiple law enforcement agencies have responded.<\/p>\n The mayor said officials have no confirmed details on the suspect or the victims. The incident is believed to have started in southeast Midland and progressed across south Midland. <\/p>\n City officials asked the public to avoid the area. <\/p>\n \u201cAdditional information will be released as it becomes available,\u201d the city said in a post on X<\/a>. <\/p>\n This is a developing story.
