Detection systems help prevent unnecessary delays in traffic, according to city documents<\/a>. The upgrades will also improve signals, support more reliable traffic flow and reduce maintenance costs for outdated and failing equipment.<\/p>\n The specifics<\/p>\n Public Works Community Investment Program Manager Drew Zaeske said the new system will help the city\u2019s engineering and police departments monitor real-time traffic conditions and construction impacts during emergencies.<\/p>\n The new intersections will provide full visibility of the four sides of an intersection, according to the city\u2019s engineering department, and provide the following expansions:<\/p>\n Vehicle and pedestrian countsTraffic signal performance metricsFine-tuned signal timingCitywide signal coordinationZaeske said installation will likely start this summer and take 15 months to complete.<\/p>\n Funds for the upgrades come from the city\u2019s 2025-26 Street Improvement Community Investment Program<\/a>, per city documents.
