A shooter who opened fire in the West Texas city of Midland died on Friday after a stand-off with police following an attack that left one person dead and at least nine others injured, city officials said.<\/p>\n

The suspect, 45-year-old Victor Mata Villarreal, had shot at police just days earlier during a chase and was already being sought by authorities when he began firing at officers and bystanders in Midland, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n

Police were called to the area after getting reports about an active shooter, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Villarreal barricaded himself in an abandoned veterinary clinic and was found dead inside the building just a few hours after the shooting began, police said. They did not say how he died.<\/p>\n

Midland Mayor Lori Blong said authorities used robot and drone footage to confirm that the shooter was dead.<\/p>\n
