<\/p>\nEL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The El Paso Independent School District has warned the state that it will lay off almost 250 people.<\/p>\n
This all comes from a letter the district sent to the Texas Workforce Commission on Sunday, where the district notified the commission of the jobs it will cut due to ongoing funding issues. <\/p>\n
The deadline for the cuts is set for June 19.<\/p>\n
The bulk of the jobs being cut involve teachers, clerks, social workers, paraprofessionals, and family, community & military liaisons.<\/p>\n

In the letter, the district lists resources it will provide to employees being laid off, such as employment opportunities elsewhere in the district, help finding a job or changing careers, as well as unemployment insurance guidance. <\/p>\n

RELATED: El Paso ISD employees notified of position cuts, teachers association says<\/a><\/p>\n As it was reported earlier, the El Paso Teachers Association said some of its members told the organization they started getting notifications on Tuesday night that they were on a list being taken to the school board next week.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, the El Paso school district confirmed it had begun notifying employees of cut positions, with a total of 63 employees receiving notices.<\/p>\n Representatives from the El Paso Teachers Association are urging any impacted employee not to resign, saying resigning would make them ineligible for unemployment benefits.<\/p>\n The cuts come after EPISD trustees approved a plan last week that includes cutting more than 200 positions districtwide, including 54 teacher positions. <\/p>\n The move comes as the district declared financial exigency, allowing for termination of contracts, employment agreements, and programs without penalties.<\/p>\n RELATED: EPISD staff await answers as parents react to approved cuts<\/a><\/p>\n
