EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 El Paso County is preparing to open cooling centers for residents as high temperatures arrive in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
The county plans to open its community centers as cooling centers beginning Monday, June 15, with an anticipated end date of Aug. 15. <\/p>\n
The centers are intended to provide indoor, air-conditioned spaces for residents to cool down during the summer, when El Paso typically experiences 100-plus-degree heat in June, July and August.<\/p>\n
The cooling centers will be available daily, Sunday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for the Juneteenth holiday on June 19 and the Independence Day holidays on July 3 and 4.<\/p>\n

The City of El Paso also has cooling center locations open and available for residents. Locations and hours of operation are available through the city\u2019s cooling centers information.<\/p>\n
County officials also urged pet owners to take precautions during extreme heat, including ensuring pets have access to fresh water and shaded areas and avoiding walks during peak heat hours to prevent overheating and paw pad injuries.<\/p>\n
For after-hours or overnight cooling assistance, residents can dial 3-1-1 to be connected with the city\u2019s shelter network partners. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.<\/p>\n
