At the George R. Brown Convention Center, after Abbott wrapped up his keynote address, attendees were warned to expect a “larger than life surprise,” with organizers projecting a message instructing people to keep the aisles clear.<\/p>\n
That surprise turned out to be Paige wearing a red, white and blue headpiece and a banner that said, “Unity Drives Victory.”<\/p>\n
According to East Texas Elephant Experience, an elephant sanctuary in the city of Cut and Shoot, Paige is no ordinary elephant. <\/p>\n
Brought to the United States as an orphan in the mid-1980s, she has grown into the largest of the facility’s three elephants, weighing almost 9,000 pounds.<\/p>\n
