EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A hit-and-run crash that left people injured at an East El Paso intersection has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man after investigators tracked down the suspected pickup truck. <\/p>\n
According to the El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office, deputies responded on June 10 at about 6:17 p.m. to the intersection of Desert Meadows Drive and Montana Avenue for a hit-and-run collision involving injuries. <\/p>\n
Investigators said the driver of a black Dodge Ram struck another vehicle and left the scene without stopping to provide information or render aid.<\/p>\n
A video of the incident was later shared on the local social media platform, FitFam, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
Deputies assigned to the Special Operations Unit conducted a follow-up investigation that led them to a residence in the 15100 block of Blaeu Drive, where the suspect vehicle was identified. <\/p>\n
Investigators then obtained a search warrant to seize the vehicle and collect evidence. Deputies also located surveillance footage showing the vehicle arriving at the residence shortly after the collision occurred, officials said.<\/p>\n
Through the investigation, deputies identified the driver as 40-year-old Ramon Pena and obtained an arrest warrant for Collision Involving Damage to a Vehicle. Bond was set at $20,000.<\/p>\n
SOU deputies later located Pena at a residence in the 3000 block of Hiawatha Drive, where he was taken into custody without incident, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
During the arrest, deputies determined Pena violated a court-issued protective order prohibiting him from being at that location. He was additionally charged with Violation of a Protective Order and issued an additional $3,000 bond.<\/p>\n
Pena was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility.<\/p>\n
\u201cLeaving the scene of a crash is unacceptable and against the law,\u201d Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. \u201cI commend our deputies for their outstanding investigative work in quickly identifying and locating the suspect. We will continue to pursue those who endanger others on our roadways and attempt to evade accountability.\u201d <\/p>\n
