HOUSTON \u2013 Houston\u2019s deep blues heritage takes the spotlight once again at the third annual Houston Bluesfest<\/a>, happening Saturday, Nov. 8, at East River 9. <\/p>\n

The festival celebrates the city\u2019s musical roots\u2014especially the legacy of Houston\u2019s historic Fifth Ward and the legendary Duke Peacock Studio\u2014while inspiring a new generation of artists.<\/p>\n

A Festival With Heart and Heritage<\/p>\n

Created by DeJarnett, Houston Bluesfest honors the artists who shaped the city\u2019s blues identity and the community that continues to keep it alive. As founder of HoustonLive<\/a>\u00ae and a member of the City of Houston\u2019s Music Advisory Board, DeJarnett has invested more than $250,000 into Houston\u2019s creative economy, supporting local musicians, venues and cultural projects that connect people through live music.<\/p>\n

Music, Art and Dance Collide<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s festival features powerhouse performances from Texas blues icons and rising stars, including Trudy Lynn, Hamilton Loomis, Van Wilks, Allison Fisher, Leonard \u201cLowdown\u201d Brown and Jonn Del Toro Richardson.<\/p>\n

The event also expands beyond the stage with Bayou Blues, a multimedia collaboration with Art Uniti<\/a> that fuses music, art and movement. Highlights include:<\/p>\n

\u201cPeacock Crossroads,\u201d a sculpture by Tami Moschioni honoring the Duke Peacock Recording Studio<\/p>\n

\u201cPeacock Blues,\u201d a modern dance performance by Adam Castaneda and the Pilot Dance Troupe<\/p>\n

\u201cFifth Ward Blues,\u201d a short film by Melelani Petersen celebrating Houston\u2019s African American musical pioneers<\/p>\n

The project is funded by a City of Houston SACI grant through the Houston Arts Alliance.<\/p>\n
