{"id":338244,"date":"2026-06-16T10:47:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T10:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/338244\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T10:47:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T10:47:23","slug":"uber-eats-rival-wonder-eyes-major-texas-expansion-in-san-antonio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/338244\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber Eats rival Wonder eyes major Texas expansion in San Antonio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For those whose cravings differ drastically from those of their friends and family, a pair of new San Antonio restaurants focused on variety, pickup and delivery might be the solution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wonder is planning a pair of restaurants in the San Antonio area, according to two recent filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdlr.texas.gov\/TABS\/Search\/Project\/TABS2026022608\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">The first filing<\/a> lists one location inside the former Familia Dental building off FM78 (Old Seguin Road),\u00a0near Walzem Road on the Eastside. The other location will pop up on Station Road in Schertz, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdlr.texas.gov\/TABS\/Search\/Project\/TABS2026021472\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">second filing<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wonders\u00a0are like food halls, but some diners liken them to ghost kitchens. Focused on pickup and delivery, they offer more than a dozen different restaurant concepts in one place. For example, diners can order Mediterranean, pizza (both New York and Detroit-style), Indian, Mexican, salads, sushi, comfort classics, barbecue, Italian, wings, bagels, Chinese, Spanish and more. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wonder.com\/restaurants\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">More\u00a0than 20 restaurants<\/a> are available through Wonder\u00a0\u2014 some of them with ties to celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay and Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s, others outposts of New York City restaurants (where former Walmart and Amazon honcho Marc Lore launched it in 2021) and others in-house brands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So how does that even work?<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/local\/washington-dc\/2025\/07\/09\/wonder-food-hall-dc-jose-andres\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"> According to\u00a0Axios D.C. <\/a>(where Wonder opened in 2025), the dishes are generally prepared in central commissaries but finished on-site in &#8220;all-electric kitchens that boast fryers, ovens, etc.&#8221; You can eat inside the restaurant, but the focus is on takeout and delivery, which is limited to a 10-minute radius. Overall, Wonder is meant to rival services like Uber Eats and DoorDash, which is why it acquired Grubhub early last year.\u00a0And contrary to those services, orders from different Wonder restaurants don&#8217;t require separate drivers, deliveries or fees that come with more than one order.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s on a mad rush for expansion, currently boasting locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Virginia, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. All in all, that&#8217;s more than 100 stores, and over 20 upcoming locations are listed on the website.
