Two years after Bengali community theater group RongoMoncho introduced\u00a0Shakuntala to the North Texas stage, the group will present another production,\u00a0Humayun Ahmed\u2019s\u00a0Jinn\u00a0Kafil, on June 20 and 21 at the Dallas Children\u2019s Theater.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis time we have selected Humayun Ahmed, who is the most popular storyteller in recent Bengali literature,\u201d said Manzur Choudhury, who\u00a0will be playing the lead in Jinn Kafil and also adapted the novel for the stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jinn Kafil\u00a0is\u00a0a psychological mystery from the Misir Ali series about a parapsychologist who solves mysteries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Choudhury says the show is\u00a0similar to\u00a0Sherlock Holmes but is\u00a0a paranormal story\u00a0with a very logical explanation at the end. The theater group has spent 10 months preparing for the show, and\u00a0this will be the first time this story\u00a0will be\u00a0performed on stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMisir Ali is a very tough character to play, and the story is also very tough to play on stage as well,\u201d Choudhury\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
The production will be performed in Bengali,\u00a0but the group will provide a synopsis of the play in English for English speakers interested in seeing the play.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Bangladeshi community is growing\u00a0here,\u00a0and we are trying our best to hold our\u00a0culture, and we want people to see what Bangladeshi theater can do,\u201d Choudhury said.<\/p>\n
