But rather than savoring the moment, they’re already deep into planning for Wednesday’s next match.

This story continues below.

“Nobody has prepared better than North Texas,” Ross said, a sentiment that appeared to be borne out by the day’s results.

CentrePort Station, the regional transit hub designated for FIFA ticket holders, processed about 7,000 fans — roughly 5,000 fewer than the maximum capacity organizers had braced for. That lower-than-expected turnout gave the system breathing room, and by most accounts, it showed.

Natalie Bettger, Senior Program Manager at the North Central Texas Council of Governments, said her team was pleased with how the transit operation held up.

“We were very happy with the transit component of it,” she said.

Still, Bettger was quick to identify areas for improvement, particularly around rideshare coordination. Getting clearer information to drivers — about designated pickup and drop-off areas, and where parking is not permitted — is near the top of her team’s to-do list before Wednesday.

“The rideshare lot — we have a little work to do for that, communicating more to rideshare operators,” she said.

Mayor Ross emphasized that communication is especially critical for the large share of visitors experiencing Texas for the first time. To help, the city has deployed more than 20 interactive kiosks throughout Arlington. The touchscreen stations offer directions, local restaurant listings, and even the ability to take selfies. More importantly, each kiosk can connect users directly to emergency services if needed — a feature that, fortunately, wasn’t called upon during Sunday’s match.

On the public safety side, Arlington Police Deputy Chief Leo Daniels reported three arrests over the course of the day: one for criminal trespass, one for public intoxication and one for trademark counterfeiting. He described the overall event as a success but stressed that his department views every game as a chance to learn.

“We look at every day as a practice,” Daniels said. “We see what went well, what didn’t go well.” He added that traffic control is one area the department is already working to improve ahead of Wednesday.

Ross said the bar for the next match is straightforward: replicate what worked.

“We absolutely want to see exactly what we saw — very little hiccups in what was going on,” he said.

Transportation officials echoed that optimism while staying focused on the details. Following Sunday’s event, organizers held a formal debrief Monday to review logistics, transit flow and stadium drop-off zones.

Planning for Wednesday draws on multiple sources of information. Officials are analyzing ridership and crowd data from Sunday, researching the travel habits of the teams competing in the upcoming match, and exchanging notes with other FIFA host cities around the country. Bettger said the communication improvements extend beyond rideshare: her team is looking at how to better convey route information and parking restrictions to all visitors traveling to and from the stadium.

“How we communicate the routes to those folks, how we communicate no parking in certain areas — just general communications to the people who are traveling to and from the match,” she said.

Sunday went smoothly, with minimal arrests and strong transit numbers, officials say.
