UT-San Antonio President Taylor Eighmy has publicly thrown his support behind Project Marvel, a proposed $4 billion sports-and-entertainment district anchored by a new Spurs arena at Hemisfair.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly support the Sports & Entertainment concept,\u201d Eighmy said in a tweet. \u201cI encourage members of our community to be fully informed as they vote on these two propositions (A&B) this November. Eighmy tagged his comments on a post by the public-private economic development group Greater: SATX. In it tweet, the group said building a new NBA arena will help San Antonio retain educated talent, which often relocates to other Texas cities for job opportunities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we want to stay competitive, we need to build a city where people want to be,\u201d the Greater SATX post said. \u201cThe proposed Sports & Entertainment District is that kind of investment \u2014 growing opportunity and fueling San Antonio\u2019s momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eigmy\u2019s comments come before Bexar County voters head to the polls Nov. 4 to decide whether to raise the county\u2019s visitor tax to 2%. If passed, that additional revenue from the visitor\u2019s tax would go towards financing a new stadium for the Spurs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

UT-San Antonio\u2019s Center for Public Opinion Research also is expected to unveil a new poll on public support for the arena vote this Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
