System forms off coast of Texas as 1st named storm of 2026 Atlantic hurricane season<\/p>\n

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Life-threatening flooding is expected across portions of the Southeastern United States from Tropical Storm Arthur, which formed Wednesday morning near the middle Texas coast.<\/p>\n

As of 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, the center of Tropical Storm Arthur was about 85 miles west-southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana.<\/p>\n

Arthur is moving toward the northeast near 9 mph and an increase in forward speed is expected today. <\/p>\n

Surface observations and data from the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters indicate that maximum sustained winds neared 35 mph with higher gusts. <\/p>\n

Weakening is anticipated as the low moves inland. <\/p>\n

The minimum central pressure based on surface observations is 1000 mb (29.53 inches). <\/p>\n
