After several days of rainy weather<\/a>, the Houston region faces steamy, summerlike conditions.<\/p>\n

A heat advisory has been issued for the Houston and Galveston area between 11 a.m. Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday. Expected heat indices between 107 and 114 degrees Fahrenheit, or 41-46 degrees Celsius, are being driven by humidity, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Bradley Brokamp. He said Thursday morning that a moist air mass remains in the region after Tropical Storm Arthur<\/a> formed along the Texas coast Wednesday and dissipated several hours later.<\/p>\n

Brokamp said conditions Thursday and Friday are expected to be \u201cmore akin to how it would feel deep in the summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we’ve been advising everyone to do is just make sure they\u2019re staying hydrated,\u201d he said. \u201cLimit time outdoors. Take some time to cool off indoors. Try to wear light-colored, lightweight clothes if you spend some time outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daily high temperatures in the low- to mid-90s are forecasted through the weekend, according to the weather service\u2019s Houston\/Galveston office<\/a>. But because of the humidity, the heat indices, or feels-like temperatures, will be several degrees higher.<\/p>\n

That figures to impact soccer fans planning to attend the FIFA Fan Festival<\/a>, a free outdoor event in East Downtown that\u2019s held in conjunction with World Cup matches. Houston hosts a World Cup match between the Netherlands<\/a> and Sweden at noon Saturday at NRG Stadium.<\/p>\n

There also are several outdoor events planned in the Houston and Galveston areas for Juneteenth<\/a>, which is Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe get a little bit more of a reprieve over the weekend, but it’ll still be pretty warm,\u201d Brokamp said. \u201cIt’s going to be triple-digit heat indices all through the seven-day forecast for the most part. We don\u2019t really get much in the way of rain chances either. … It’s just going to be generally warm and hot over the next several days.\u201d<\/p>\n
